Almetrice Paige

Almetrice Paire Paige, affectionally called Metrice, was the fifth child of the late Gillmer and Almetrice Paire. She was born on August 25th, 1946, in Fairmount Heights, Md. She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin John Paige Sr., her parents: Gilmer and Almetrice Paige, her brothers William, Charles, and Timothy; and her sister Barbara (Jean). Metrice accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age while a member of The Mt. Zion Church of God, located in Fairmount Heights, Md. Metrice received her formal education at Fairmount Heights Elementary and Fairmount Heights High School in Prince George‘s County. Upon completing high school, she pursued careers at the United States Postal Service and the United States Army at the Harry Diamond Laboratories. In June of 1968, Metrice welcomed the birth of her first-born child, Cavin D. Daniels. Soon afterward, she met and married Melvin John Paige, Sr., and from this union, Michael Terrence Paige was born in July of 1970. This union would also create a new and blended family to include Melvin John Paige Jr. and Karen Veronica Paige. Metrice always pursued her dreams. Determined not to stop there, she realized her dreams of caring for others; she became a certified early childhood educator, often working with kids with special needs. After retiring as an educator from The First Baptist Church of Deanwood, she established her own business (The Sister Connection) as a certified caterer while becoming a certified geriatric specialist providing care for the elderly. She later attended Montgomery College in Montgomery County, Maryland. In 2001, Metrice joined Michigan Park Christian Church, where her son Michael was Assistant Pastor. She was active in many ministries but passionate about the Diaconate and Children‘s Christian Education. Metrice, also sometimes called “Mother Paige” at church, also served as an Elder, and whenever she was called upon, she never once denied the opportunity to serve. As one of the Christian Education leaders, she would always take the initiative to assist Sunday School teachers with the preparation of lessons and pick up supplies and materials. Family was everything to Metrice; she was the matriarch for her family and remaining siblings. Additionally, she also welcomed all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she adored each of them. When we had our family events, she was the first to arrive with the Honda loaded with food and supplies. She was reliable; if she told you she would do something, you could count it as done! Metrice loved to decorate the tables and helped prepare dinner for her family. She was extremely organized and would assign family members what dishes to prepare. Metrice was fun! In the early years, she enjoyed hand dancing, and even though she was rather mild-mannered, she knew how to defend herself; if you got into a fight with her, you could expect to be defeated! She had an infectious laugh; she was encouraging, and when you felt discouraged, she was there to lift you up. Metrice leaves to cherish her memory: Her two son‘s Cavin Daniels of Springfield, Virginia; and Michael Terrence Paige (Allison Griffith-Paige) of Upper Marlboro, Md; Melvin John-Paige Jr. of Bladensburg, Md; and Karen Veronica Paige of Fairmount Heights, Md. Thirteen grandchildren and forty-two great-grands. Her brothers Richard Paire (Baltimore, Md), Thomas Earl Paire (Anita Paire) (Forestville, Md), her sister Patricia Diane Freeman (Silver Spring, Md), and her Sister - Cousins Lillie Martin (JD), Fairmount Heights, Md, and Lorraine Kittrell Upper Marlboro, Md, and a host of other relatives and friends.
