Judith C. Rhodes

Judith Carol Williams Rhodes was the fifth child born to Jimmie Junius and Annie Laura Mitchell Williams on September 19, 1959, in Mobile, Alabama. Judith departed this life peacefully in the early morning hours of August 17, 2025, having recently faced several health challenges. In 1960, Judith’s family moved to Greensboro, North Carolina while she was still an infant. She grew up there and attended Greensboro Public Schools, graduating from Walter Hines Page High School in 1977. Judith went on to attend Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Criminology in 1981. She later attended Hunter College in New York where she received a Master’s Degree in Social Work. While attending Lincoln University, Judith was initiated into the Epsilon Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in November of 1978. She was later aﬃliated with the Tau Omega Chapter in New York and Beta Iota Omega Chapter in Greensboro. After she and her family moved to the District of Columbia, Judith became a General Member but often participated in Xi Zeta Omega Chapter’s programs and events. In 1984, Judith married her high school sweetheart, Terry Rhodes. To this union were born four children: Jeron James, Jon Christopher, Jasmine Zanobia and Janae Anita. The names of their children are indicative of Judith’s close familial bonds, as each first name continued the first initial “J” tradition but, more significantly, each child’s middle name was representative of one of Judith’s siblings. The fierce love and devotion to her family was evident throughout Judith’s lifetime. This passion for her family also spilled over into Judith’s career and professional life in Social Services. She had a natural compassion for children, whether they were her clients or not, and especially if they were friends with her own children. Judith’s career encompassed client and family needs assessments, psychosocial evaluations, counseling, and treatment plans; foster home placements; and completing adoptions with Pius XII Youth and Family Services in Bronx, New York, and the Guilford County, North Carolina Department of Social Services. Moreover, Judith’s expertise extended to forensic services as a member of The Legal Aid Society in New York. N.Y. In Washington, D.C., Judith worked with several agencies including the Hope Village, Southwest Collaborative and So Others Might Eat (SOME). Those left to cherish Judith’s memory in addition to her children are a daughter-in-law, a son- in-law, nine grandchildren, six nieces, three nephews, four grand nephews, three grand nieces, two brothers, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, and a sister-in-law, as well as a host of cousins, friends and Sorors. Judith was pre-deceased by her parents, her “bonus” mother, a brother and a sister
