Martha E. Battle

Martha Elizabeth Feggins Battle, daughter of the late Andrew and Martha Ann Feggins, was born in Bracey, VA Mecklenburg County on May 16, 1943 and departed this life Sept 7, 2023. She attended East End High School in South Hill, VA. In 1963 she was married to Harvey Lynn Gregory who preceded her in death. In 1976 she was wedded to her husband Odell Battle. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Trina Gregory; and one sister, Naomi Feggins; and two brothers, Richard Feggins and Eddie Lee Feggins. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted, lov- ing and faithful husband, Odell Battle, seven children and one, Trina Gregory who preceded her in death. Gregory (Kitty); Felicia Medlock (Darin) of Washington, DC; Bridgette Diggs (Troy) of Virginia Beach, VA; Rochell Young (Ron) of Bryans Road, MD; Shannel Duke (Chuck) of Norfolk, VA; Four siblings, preceded in death by three, Richard Feggins, Naomi Feggins and Eddie Lee Feggins; Bessie M. Powers, Brandywine, MD; William (Dick) Feggins (Janet) of Louisburg, NC; Virgie Jones of Washington, DC; Robert (Bob) Feggins (Audrey) of Greenbelt, MD, nine- teen Grandchildren, twenty Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great Grandson. Seven Brother in laws, Eight Sister in laws and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. One special God son Louis (Lou) Smith. “Liz” (Popcorn) was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She was always a pillar in her community and always ready to lend a hand to any and everyone, that’s why it was so many that called her “Momma”. Liz was a person who loved to dance, sometimes she did it while in pain and yes even while pregnant. She was in tune with nature (and the wilderness) which reflected her love for elephants, plants, and gardening. She did hair and worked at Natural Motions on Georgia Ave. for years, and she also worked at the bakery. As many can attest, she was a fashionista who loved to dress, matching from head to toe. “SHE LOVED HER FAMILY.” There is so much to be said about Liz, a plethora of pronouns that can be used to describe her but you already know that. Keeping it real, words can not express what Liz/Momma has meant to so many people, thus the reason each of you are here to celebrate her today.
